The recent opening of Milkwood Tea House in Sowerby Street has seen business soar for owners Larni Christie and Amanda Hobbs-Haigh as customers indulge on delicious gourmet foods in a funky, relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

Officially opened in May, MATS associates and great friends Larni and Amanda had spoken of opening a café just 6 months beforehand, little did they know the opportunity would present itself so soon. The property soon underwent an 8 week renovation and with the help of family and friends, the Tea House, everything from décor to menu’s, was soon ready.

“It has been a huge learning curve, but a good one. We have been so lucky to have found some really wonderful staff, which is invaluable to any business. We know so many people in town, and it is so great to have old friends, family, and new regulars all popping in.  It makes for a really lovely environment, to have music playing, people laughing, chatting and getting great feedback about what we are doing”, explained Amanda.

And the name Milkwood? Comes from the origins of a ‘play for voices’ titled “Under Milkwood” about the comings and goings of a small welsh village which they felt suited the café and its customers passing through.

“The decor is a bit of both of us, just all thrown together, quite eclectic, not really any particular style. It really was a matter of,”I like these lights, or “I found this, what do you think?” explained Amanda. The café is fitted with beautiful artworks by talented local, Leanne Ward as well as a boardroom equipped with a smart board available for hire.

Their tasty menus go hand in hand with quality Allpress Espresso coffee and homemade sweets and treats, all available at 26 Sowerby Street Muswellbrook from Wednesday to Friday 9am- 5pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am until 2pm.

The Tea House has been a huge success, so head on up to Milkwood and experience it for yourself! The cash only business can be contacted for bookings on
